No one likes to stay in the house all day. But if you have some kind ᴄʜʀᴏɴɪᴄ ɪʟʟɴᴇss, you can’t do anything. This is what Kayla used to think too until she got herself a dog that has a human-like expression. After she brought home Penelope the Goose, Kayla’s life changed. The three-year-old Italian greyhound has been bringing joy not just to her human but to the entire world as well with her goose-like body shape and funny dog expressions.
Having been diagnosed with a ᴄʜʀᴏɴɪᴄ ɪʟʟɴᴇss, Kayla spends most of her days at home. So, three years ago, when her youngest son was about to start school, she thought of adopting a dog. She adopted Penelope when she was only eight weeks old. And since then, the adorable pooch has been keeping her company at their home in Gardner, Kansas.
“When my youngest child started school, I realized I would be home alone for the first time in years. I had 2 dogs who were both seniors and a senior dog recently ᴘᴀssᴇᴅ ᴀᴡᴀʏ. I was too ill to go back to work and as I’m often stuck in my house for days due to being ᴄʜʀᴏɴɪᴄally ɪll, my dogs are my best friends, and often all I have to keep me company,” Kayla told us.
Prior to meeting Penelope, the previous family to whom she belonged told Kayla that “there was something very special” about the pup. Indeed, Penelope was unlike the other puppies in her litter who were quite playful and rowdy. In fact, when Kayla first met her, she was just shyly cuddling in bed. According to Kayla, Penelope was “much calmer” than her siblings.
“When I picked her up, she was so tiny and gentle and just cuddled up to me and slept. For me, it was love at first sight!”
“She loves playing with my kids and their friends and if one of my children is ill, she seems to know and cuddles up on them and stays with them. She is loved by my children so intensely and she seems to reciprocate the feelings.”
After Kayla brought her new family member home, she decided to post a picture with her. Once the picture was posted, Kayla realized that people are actually liking Penelope’s “goose-like” look. So then she decided to make an Instagram account for her furry friend.
Penelope has gained immediate fame. She is a star! Right now, 87.2k people are following the account.
“Penelope overall does great posing for pictures! She is such an inquisitive little thing that she often stays very still while she is scoping things out. Most of our pics are just natural looks from us cuddling on the couch, but the more ‘posed’ pics she enjoys doing because she gets treats and loves having all the attention on her!”
