Two Hawks Passing A King Snake In Mid-Air

Ann Constantino, a local wildlife photographer, snapped a once-in-a-lifetime sight this week: two hawks passing a king snake in mid-air.

She believes the birds were parents trying to feed their young.

“It occurred so quickly,” Ann Constantino said.

“I noticed one bird approaching it with the snake, then after the handoff, the one with the snake vanished.”

Unfortunately, the snake’s forced aerial stretch may have been for naught—Constantino believes the juvenile hawk lost its prey.

“Not long after, I observed junior weeping from a snag,” she explained.

My guess is that the kid dropped it (which happens all the time) and was wailing for another meal.”
