Enzo, the cute golden retriever, has been a pro napper, sock thief, long-walk taker, kiss-giver, and fuzzy snuggler since 2016. Enzo was lucky enough to find his permanent home at the age of just 2. This doggo is also very friendly!
Enzo was born with a disorder called ᴘɪɢᴍᴇɴᴛᴇᴅ sᴏᴍᴀᴛɪᴄ ᴄᴇʟʟ ᴍᴜᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ which has given him a large black splotch (his ‘lil freckle’ as his family calls it) over the side of his face. Luckily for Enzo, the condition is not dangerous or harmful, it simply affects the pattern of his coat. His eye area has a large black splotch due to a .ɢ.ᴇɴᴇᴛɪᴄ mutation. He is much like any other Golden Retriever pup-friendly, goofy, cuddly – but a rare genetic mutation makes him stand out from the crowd.
Dr. Christopher Reeder of BluePearl Veterinary Partners said about Enzo’s condition,
“This is a rare coat color mutatiοn, typically resulting in patches of very darkly-colored hair. Other than coat color change and making a very interesting patterned animal, this appears to have no other ill effects. Just about any breed of dog can be affected.”
His condition never affected Enzo’s enthusiastic personality. Although people often asked about his patch, he was still very much loved by everyone, and all Enzο wanted was to be a friend to everyone he meets. There was never a dull moment with Enzο, and he never felt that he was different from the other dogs.
Another peculiar trait about Enzο is that he is quite big for his age, and people have noticed. For Enzο, he is just another puppy enjoying the best in life, and people will love him for what he is.
“People are also blown away by his size,” Castrο said. “He’s at the top end of his size bracket. I’ve had people ask if he’s 5 or 6 months when he’s barely 13 weeks old.”
