Dogs are loyal and smart creatures, so they are called man’s best friends. They are probably the only living creatures who never fail to recognize their owners even after some time of being away from each other. They love their humans more than they love themselves, and this has been proven to be true numerous times.
Cotton is a sweet and affectionate Pit Bull who was rescued in 2009 by his dad, Phil. The man came home from serving in Afghanistan and wanted to have a dog companion, so he decided to give the pit bull a second chance at a new life. Although Cotton is ᴅᴇᴀғ, he never lets it stop him from becoming a good service dog. He loves Phil so much and tries his best to make his owner’s life happier.
Phil now serves in the Oregon National Guard, so he is often away from home because of work. Sadly, the owner ᴘᴀssᴇᴅ ᴀᴡᴀʏ and the dog were unaware that his good friend will never come home.
Although its search always ended with disappointment, the loyal pet would reappear at the parking lot at 5 pm every day, the time when the owner used to start his come home.
‘We are all very curious,’ the resident added. ‘Cotton has determinedly waited for five years. How long could it carry on?’
Cotton’s loyalty touched many locals who joined forces to look after the pooch after owner’s ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ.
They built a doghouse in the complex for Cotton to sleep in while bringing food to feed the animal every day.
Some neighbors also tried to adopt the dog, but the faithful pet refused to leave the parking lot where the owner worked.
“Please help Cotton find a new home and a family for him to love. He’s a sweet happy boy by nature. He just needs people to help his heart heal,” they wrote. “He is a 3-year-old Lab mix who is housebroken, adores kids, okay with dogs (pretty much neutral to them), but not meant for a home with cats or birds. But people, boy, does he love them! So much so that Moose would do best in a home where he wasn’t left home alone all day long, he misses his people too much.”
