A Wearable Fan For Pets

A Tokyo clothing maker has teamed up with veterinarians to create a wearable fan for pets, hoping to attract the anxious owners of dogs – or cats – that cannot shed their fur coats in Japan’s ʙʟɪsᴛᴇʀɪɴɢ summer weather.

The device comprises a battery-operated, 80-gram (3-ounce) fan attached to a mesh outfit and blows air around an animal’s body.

Rei Uzawa, president of maternity clothing maker Sweet Mommy, says she was motivated to create it after seeing her pet chihuahua ᴇxʜᴀᴜsᴛᴇᴅ every time it was taken out for a walk in the sᴄᴏʀᴄʜɪɴɢ summer heat.

“There was almost no rainy season this year, so the hot days came early, and in that sense, I think we developed a product that is right for the market,” she said.

They Have Already Garnered Significant Attention In Japan

After the rainy season in Tokyo ended in late June, the Japanese capital sᴜꜰꜰᴇʀᴇᴅ the most prolonged heatwave on record, with temperatures up to 35C (95 F) for nine days.

“I usually use dry ice packs to keep the dogs cool. But I think it’s easier to walk my dogs if we have this fan,” said Mami Kumamoto, 48, owner of a miniature poodle named Pudding and a terrier named Maco.

The device debuted in early July, and Sweet Mommy has received about 100 orders, Uzawa said. It comes in five sizes and is priced at 9,900 yen ($75).

In addition to wearable fans, there are several other ways that Japanese pet owners are helping their furry friends stay cool during the summer.

For example, some pet owners use cooling mats designed to dissipate heat and provide a comfortable surface for their pets to lie on.

Other pet owners freeze water in plastic bottles to create makeshift air conditioning units for their pets.

Pet Owners Should Take ʀᴇᴄᴀᴜᴛɪɴs!

It’s essential to note that pets are susceptible to ʜᴇᴀᴛsᴛʀᴏᴋᴇ and ᴅᴇʜʏᴅʀᴀᴛɪᴏɴ, which can be ʟɪꜰᴇ-ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴛᴇɴɪɴɢ. Pet owners should take ᴘʀᴇᴄᴀᴜᴛɪᴏɴs to ensure their pets are not exposed to ʜɪɢʜ ᴛᴇᴍᴘᴇʀᴀᴛᴜʀᴇs for extended periods and have access to fresh water at all times.

Japan’s wearable pet fans are an innovative solution to help cats and dogs beat the sᴄᴏʀᴄʜɪɴɢ heat during the summer months. While they are a new addition to the pet product market, they have already proven popular among Japanese pet owners.

It’s essential to remember that while these wearable fans provide relief for pets during the ʜᴏᴛ months, it’s crucial to take additional ᴘʀᴇᴄᴀᴜᴛɪᴏɴs to ensure the health and safety of our furry friends.
