Firefighters in the Chilean city of Iquique put their safety on the line each day for the community — but it’s their loving gesture to a four-legged member of their company, who ᴘᴀssᴇᴅ ᴀᴡᴀʏ this week, that’s garnering headlines across the country.
In Iquique Fire Department, firefighters in this beautiful city work hard and risk their own lives to protect their citizens’ properties and lives.
After their tough daily job, the firefighters were happy to meet and play with their station dog, Negro. For more than a decade, this sweet dog named Negro lived alongside first responders from the Iquique Fire Department.
The station dog not only worked as a watch dog to guard the fire station, also throughout the 10 years, he has brought many happy memory to the firefighters and cheered them up after their hard days by wagging its tail.
Being a firefighter is tough and stressful, Negro had managed to release the stress of the firefighters by playing with them. Sadly, Negro’s years of service have come to an end. At the age of 14, which is equivalent to the human age of 78, Negro .d.ied naturally of old age.
“Today, one from our ranks left the earth — our four-legged firefighter,” the fire department wrote online. “Thank you very much for all the years you’ve been with us. We’ll remember you forever.”
In order to thank it for its long and faithful service, the firefighters decided to organize the most formal ꜰᴜɴᴇʀᴀʟ ceremony for their beloved dog. But Negro’s colleagues went on to pay tribute to him with more than only words. The department’s board of directors decided to go one step further, bestowing upon the dog the rank of “honorary firefighter,” and granting him the final respects that come with it.
The news had garnered a lot of headlines across Chile and people were amazed to see how kind their firefighters are.
