In a heartwarming display of compassion, a pregnant dog in a small village in southern India has adopted an ᴏʀᴘʜᴀɴᴇᴅ monkey after its mother was ᴘᴏɪsᴏɴᴇᴅ. The unlikely duo has become the talk of the town, with their emotional bond capturing the hearts of many.

The infant monkey can be seen hugging and playing around the dog, as the mother-to-be seems to enjoy having him around.
Photographer Prakash Badal, 48, snapped the images while visiting Chakki Mor, Solan in Himachal Pradesh, northern India, initially planning to photograph birds.
The dog began caring for the baby monkey as if she were his own, cuddling, grooming, and even sharing his food with her. The infant monkey can be seen hugging and playing around the dog, as the monkey seems to enjoy having him around.
The unlikely pair quickly became inseparable. They could often be found napping together in the shade or playing together in the fields. The dog even began to defend baby monkeys from other dogs and animals that may have ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴛᴇɴᴇᴅ her.

He said: ‘The monkey infant seemed to be about ten days old when locals ᴘᴏɪsᴏɴᴇᴅ the adult monkeys because they were ᴅᴇsᴛʀᴏʏɪɴɢ their crops.
‘This infant sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇᴅ, and the dog adopted it.
‘Although sometimes there are ᴄᴏɴꜰʟɪᴄᴛs between monkeys and dogs, the relationship of a mother is more important.’
‘I felt that when a mother saw a tiny baby left alone, and there is nobody to take care of him, the maternal instinct took the initiative to adopt a baby even if it’s from different species.
‘This type of relationship is a lesson for humans who have become sᴇʟꜰɪsʜ and ᴋɪʟʟ each other just because he is from another cast or ʀᴇʟɪɢɪᴏɴ. ‘
