How many times you’ve heard someone declaring that cats are stupid and who needs them anyway? We sure did at least a couple, and each time the story ended the same way – the cat hater unexpectedly got themselves a cat, and now they’re best friends forever.

For years my father used to say he hated the pet cats we had. Then one day I caught him with a cat on his armchair and him stroking it and the cat purring. I wasn’t there when he found her .d.ead, asleep under a bush in the garden. My mother said he cried . Never saw my father cry his whole life, WW2 veteran, but the loss of that cat brought tears to his eyes. Pets, they get to you and become family.
