A photo of a hunter clutching a big bullfrog that he allegedly captured in a Texas pond is making the rounds on the internet.
The South Texas Hunting Association shared a photo of Markcuz Rangel holding the 13-pound critter on Facebook on Thursday. Rangel told the Houston Chronicle that he discovered the frog while hunting on a ranch in Batesville in a fishing pond.
People have questioned the photographs’ veracity, but Rangel claims that the frog is real and that he has found others of similar size in the past.
Texas Parks & Wildlife verified the photographs are genuine, however, the frog may not be as large as it seems.
According to Steve Lightfoot of Texas Parks and Wildlife, it’s an “optical illusion generated by stretching the frog toward the camera.” “But he’s still a gigantic bullfrog.”
