After being run over by a car in south China, bereaved male geese refused to leave the lifeless remains of their ᴅᴇᴄᴇᴀsᴇᴅ mate.
The ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ scene was captured on camera on Tuesday in a hamlet in Longyan, Fujian province after the goose was hit while walking down a dirt road.
The male goose was caught furiously nudging her head and pushing her neck up with his beak in an attempt to rouse her asleep.
According to video news site Pear, the goose belonged to a family residing in a hamlet in Changting county.
The male geese honked at his d.e.a.d partner’s unmoving body for more than 20 minutes, attempting to resurrect him.
He remained vigil and watched over her after smelling and poking her before grudgingly giving up. He then went away, his head down in sadness.
The tragedy saddened many internet users, many of whom were animal lovers. ‘Sometimes animals exhibit more dedication and commitment than people,’ one user on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo said.
‘What a dedicated male goose. ‘You can see it’s ᴅᴇᴠᴀsᴛᴀᴛᴇᴅ,’ claimed another person. ‘When driving, please pay attention to the road!’ urged one user.
